Who will win Super Bowl LVI? Will it be a Rams blowout or a Bengals come-from-behind last-second field goal? Whether you’re a sports analyst or a die-hard fan, everyone has their opinion for who’s going to Disneyworld. Winning predictions come in nearly every fashion, but, in recent years, the most accurate predictions are coming from both AI and simulations.

In 2017, Louis Rosenberg, the founder of Unanimous A.I., and his team worked to predict the outcome of Super Bowl LI. Using artificial intelligence and a ‘Hive Mind,’ Rosenberg and his team not only predicted the correct winner but also the final score which had only been done twice in 19 years according to an ESPN Tuesday Morning Quarterback column. Unanimous AI has used their ‘Swarm AI’ to further predict the correct outcome in the Kentucky Derby, Oscar winners, and Super Bowl LIV.

“Unanimous A.I. is a very different type of artificial intelligence company as we don’t replace humans with algorithms, but instead use A.I. to amplify the knowledge, wisdom, and insights of human groups,” Rosenberg said in a Digital Trends article. “In layman’s terms, we build super-intelligent ‘hive minds’ by connecting groups of people over the internet, enabling them to think together as real-time systems moderated by A.I. algorithms. In technical terms, the technology is called artificial swarm intelligence. That’s because it’s modeled on how swarms in nature amplify the intelligence of groups.”

If Artificial Intelligence seems too far out there for predicting the winner, then Madden’s annual Super Bowl simulation game may be just right. Every year, Madden, an American football video game series developed by EA Tiburon for EA Sports, simulates the Super Bowl to predict the winner. In the nearly 18 year span of simulating games, Madden has correctly predicted the winner 61 percent of the time according to Sporting News. This year, they have predicted that the winner of Super Bowl LVI will be the Cincinnati Bengals.

As with any kind of prediction, nothing is guaranteed. Whether it’s Swarm A.I. or Madden’s simulations there’s no guarantee that data, science, and the claim to objectivity will be enough to provide the correct result every time. Sometimes the old fashioned gut-feeling prevails.
